Akshay Jay Oil, an Indian company, partners with Ethiopian farmers to enhance their agricultural productivity. They achieve this by supplying essential fertilizers, empowering these farmers with the tools they need to cultivate thriving crops. This collaboration fosters a stronger agricultural sector in Ethiopia, potentially contributing to food security and economic growth.
They have leased four hectares of land to produce compost, soil fertilizer, and bio-gas from avocado oil byproducts. Construction of this complex is already 25% complete, creating job opportunities for 260 local youths, with women comprising 70% of the workforce.
The company has established a market network for over 15,000 local farmers. These farmers have provided avocados to Akshay Jay, and this year alone, the network earned them a staggering 130 million birr.
They’ve established an avocado seedling station and distributed these seedlings to farmers free of charge, promoting large-scale avocado planting. Last year alone, they distributed a remarkable 100,000 seedlings, with an additional one million prepared and distributed this year. This initiative not only empowers farmers but also creates an eco-friendly industry.
